Doodlebug traps!

Moon? Mars? Volcanic craters? No! These are doodlebug traps. Antlions / doodlebugs / കുഴിയാന make conical excavations in loose sand or dry soil. Passing ants or insects are bombarded with sand particles and fall to the center of the pit, into the waiting mandibles of the antlions. They are called doodlebugs because of the weird patterns they make in the sand as they crawl about at night.
