A weaver ant nest

A weaver ant nest on top of the soursop tree / annona muricata more than a foot wide. Look closely and you can see another one right behind, in the process of construction. The inside is dry, slightly humid and warm for incubating their eggs. The construction is strong enough to withstand any weather. Months later, when the baby ants are grown and the leaves dry up, the nest is vacated and a fresh one built. The old one simply crumbles away!
