The Coral Vine!

Antigonon of the buckwheat family (Polygonacae). This is of a little beauty, growing on the coast of the Arabian Sea at Thalassery, Kerala, India. Nourished by the salty sprays from the waves breaking on the rocks and constantly caressed by the sea breeze, the creeping vine, locally known as 'Kadalapoo', is the favourite haunt of bees (please zoom in on the flowers), a treasure house of nectar and pollen.

An invasive species native to Mexico, the bee bush, as it is sometimes called, has now a global presence, not just on the warm coastline, but in the cooler hills as well. Bee lovers and bee keepers, do take a closer look at this perennial plant which requires practically no care at all!
